Summer Acceleration Grades (K-5) 2025 (2025)

Thank you for your interest in participating in a 2025 DCPS summer program! This is the application for all K-5 Summer Learning positions: teachers, paraprofessionals, and instructional support positions.

K-5 Summer Learning will focus on two interconnected goals: helping students discover their academic passion and preventing summer learning loss. 

K-5 Summer Learning dates are Monday, June 30, 2025, through Friday, August 1, 2025, and will take place in person at various sites around the city. 

Position Overview

  • Under the direction of the Summer Site Leader, Summer School K-5 plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students.
     
  • The position provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to every student's intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
     
  • The position is expected to review and select text and supplemental materials to help students discover their academic passions while deepening their literacy skills.
     
  • The position will design or modify teacher guides and activity materials and encourage the integration of various blended learning materials and supplementary reading materials.
     
  • The position will implement intervention programs to challenge students and provide differentiated learning experiences during Summer School.
     
  • The position will work with students to create individualized projects to be presented during a culminating event after the program.
     
  • The course guides with ideas and resources will be provided for each course, but daily lesson plans are the teacher's responsibility.
     
  • The position must be able to work the entire duration of the five-week Summer School (in-person), start-up week, Summer School kick-off, and Summer School staff training, which may be a mix of virtual and in-person.
     
  • This position is a safety-sensitive position. As a result, throughout employment, this position will be subject to the Employee Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy.
     
  • The position will report to the Summer School Site Leader.
